We are seeking an exceptional leader to serve as the Secretary for Housing and Urban Development and Chief Executive of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (the Secretary). The Secretary is responsible for advancing the Government’s housing and urban development priorities such as improving housing affordability; increasing housing supply; and reducing demand for emergency housing.
A strategic and inspiring leader to New Zealand’s devolved housing system, the Secretary will work effectively across the public and private sectors, NGOs and communities to deliver the Government’s priorities for housing and drive improvements. The Secretary will also be responsible for the Ministry’s leadership and performance, including with respect to the important role it plays in monitoring key entities such as Kāinga Ora and Tāmaki Regeneration Company.
The successful candidate will possess commercial acumen, strong executive leadership experience, a comprehensive understanding of housing, urban development and public sector governance, experience leading a complex system, and a track record of strong delivery with a focus on efficiency and effectiveness. A commitment to public service values and the ability to engage credibly with Ministers and a broad range of stakeholders is essential.
