The roles of the three Service Chiefs (Chief of Air Force, Chief of Army, and Chief of Navy) will become vacant on the following dates:
- Chief of Air Force will become vacant on 10 June 2024
- Chief of Army will become vacant on 10 June 2024
- Chief of Navy will become vacant on 1 July 2024
Applications are being sought from one-star officers who are existing members of the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) with high level command and leadership abilities, knowledge and experience in the relevant Service, and strategic thinking with a whole of NZDF perspective.
The Service Chiefs are accountable to the Chief of Defence Force to contribute to the Government’s defence policy outcomes, and responsible for the management of their Service’s capability, effectiveness, efficiency, and morale. The successful candidates must be able to create and sustain a unifying culture promoting enthusiasm and pride in the NZDF’s vision and be committed to building, sustaining and deepening culture and ethos, with respect to retention and attrition.
We are looking for leaders who have experience in the following areas: organisational leadership, operational delivery, context and relationship management and strategic leadership. More information on the key leadership dimensions of this role can be found in the position description.
