The Commission has published a Performance Improvement Review of Inland Revenue. This is the second such review under the Performance Improvement Review Programme.
Performance Improvement Reviews are future focused reviews of a specific agency undertaken by independent reviewers.
These reviews help advance the Government’s priorities and drive results and outcomes for New Zealanders
Inland Revenue plays a critical role in New Zealand. It collects over 80 percent of Crown revenue and helps disburse social support programme payments. IR’s policy advice and administration of the tax system help ensure that the tax system – which impacts the lives of all New Zealanders – is fit for purpose.
While expectations on the system are growing, this Review has found that Inland Revenue is a high performing organisation that is well placed to meet these expectations. The Review considered the main elements of Inland Revenue’s operating model and found that each of them appears to be operating satisfactorily or better.
The Review outlined a number of future challenges and recommended actions for IR including what they could do better, future challenges and opportunities.
