It's been another big year and the Public Service, as it has always done, stepped up.
As the end of 2023 fast approaches, I want to thank you all for your hard work and service. Your commitment and efforts have made a real difference, for New Zealanders and for the Government.
Your can-do attitude and ability to think and adapt quickly will be needed again as we support the Government to implement its programme.
I am very proud of our Public Service. The work you do is often unseen and unacknowledged. But this doesn’t change the facts.
The fact that public servants get up every day to make a difference for New Zealand and New Zealanders. The fact that many of you have very challenging jobs which you do without expecting any thanks. The fact that you are dedicated, hard working and bring a spirit of service to the job every day.
These facts are why trust and confidence in our Public Service remains high. And it is why you have my absolute respect.
I know many of you will be working through the summer holiday, on call, or staying close to your phones, but I hope you get some time to relax with family, friends and loved ones.
Kia tau ngā manaakitanga ki a koutou i tēnei wā Kirihimete. Have a happy Christmas, a relaxing break and best wishes for the new year.
Peter Hughes
Public Service Commissioner
