The Ministry of Education is the Government’s lead advisor on New Zealand’s education system, shaping the direction for education agencies and providers to deliver the Government’s priorities for Education across New Zealand.  

The Ministry of Education is designed to deliver an education system that is equitable and has excellent outcomes for all. The Ministry’s focus is on improving attendance and engagement across New Zealand, lifting the academic achievement and delivering positive change for children and future generations. 

We are seeking a Secretary for Education to oversee and drive change across the complex education system, and develop and maintain data to monitor, report on, critically analyse and address key education priorities within the system. 

The Secretary for Education will build relationships, collaborating and influencing across the broad range of stakeholders in the education system, and provide timely and accurate advice to Ministers. They will develop a strong team to build organisational culture and capabilities to lead across the system and have an understanding of how educational outcomes for Māori can be strengthened.
